Some tips for looking your best on the beach this summer - as modelled by me in Cornwall 1961
Always wear a hat - an especially handy tip if you have ginger hair to hide. If you do not have a hat of your own, wear your mothers.
Shop around for a rather becoming ruched swimsuit. If it has been handed down from your big sister, the elastic may have 'gone' from around your midriff but no one will notice
If a bracing breeze should pick up, make sure you put on your cardi. When bracing breeze becomes too unbearable, retreat quickly to behind the windbreak for a picnic lunch of cheese sandwiches (complete with sand)
I am smiling so much I can hardly breathe. :) I can relate to every one of your comments! My swim costume from the same era was red ruched nylon, and I can remember vividly the 'flattening' of them bit by bit ... Did you have sand in your egg sandwiches too?
ReplyDeleteDespite the chill and the sand in your sandwich, you do look quite happy!
ReplyDeleteVery cute! I remember handed down swimsuits so well - my little brother was even persuaded into one of mine when he was too tiny to protest. Don't tell him I told you that though lol
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely, completely adorable! Oh, how I am looking forward to beach fun with my little ones this summer!
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love that picture!

I'll bear all these tips in mind, thanks :-) I have plenty of hats myself though, I can probably lend on to my mother!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cutie!Love that hat x
ReplyDeleteOh! I LOVE this post!!! Like Alexa, I'm grinning so much it aches!! My Mum used to knit (!!!) our swimsuits...all well & good until you actually got them wet!!...& as for sand in the sand-wiches...yuk!!
ReplyDeleteI had the very same swimsuit too! I must root out a photo next time I am visiting Mum!
ReplyDeleteI think I was lucky to be the eldest so didn't get hand me dowm swimmies! Totally cute photo an I love the hat!
ReplyDeleteAdorable piccy Deb and some great summer advice :)
ReplyDeleteand all with a cute smile! we used to have 'soggy salad ' sandwiches - by the time they were eaten the tomato & salad cream had soaked into the bread & made them soggy ... yum!
