How great it is to have my boy back home! In some ways those five weeks flew by and in others it felt like he was gone so very long. He had a fabulous time and has experienced so much. I knew he wouldn't be one to just do touristy things but absorbed himself in the lifestyle and culture of the Tanzanian people. He befriended one of the Masai teachers and regularly visited with his family and know that will be someone he remains in contact with for a long time to come.
He's visited mountains, game reserves, safaris, hot springs and local villages. His photos are amazing! During the week he worked as a volunteer in a Lutheran primary school and integrated into a totally different way of life. Part of the reason for going was for his university course. He graduated from Sheffield with a degree in Politics last summer and then enrolled for a Masters degree course at SOAS university in London, specialising in African Politics. His dissertation will be based on the situation with Trades Unions in Tanzania and so he used his time there to visit places and interview people that will help with that. So now he is back, and it's time to put that new knowledge into place and do the final bit of work towards getting that Masters.
Did I mention how pleased I was to have him back home healthy and safe? ;-)
Sounds like he had a fascinating and educational time,Deb....so pleased he's home safe and sound.
ReplyDeleteGlad the trip was all he wanted it to be...and that he's home safely to you!

The trip must have been a great experience for him, and a bit of worrying for you! Happy for both of you that he is safely home.
ReplyDeleteHurray! My boy would be fascinated in what your boy has been studying..
ReplyDeleteSo glad he's home and has had a great experience x
ReplyDeleteThat sounds an amazing journey. It must be lovely to have your boy home and to hear of all his adventures. You must be very proud.
ReplyDeleteDeb, our lives seem to be running along in similar emotional parallels this summer. I am so very happy the Boy is home safe and so sound and that he had such an amazing trip. It will be with him for a lifetime. I am beyond thrilled that the Beast is home safe and sound but he was never more than 15 miles from me.
