#WBOYC January

Joining in with my namesake in Australia over at Deb's World for the first What's Been On Your Calendar post of the year.

I'm trying out a new way of recording things which may, or may not, continue!  A change is as good as a rest eh?

Watching and reading

It's the time of year when I tend to hibernate and stay home more than go out so I have been able to watch a few series on TV.  I really enjoyed Playing Nice which made me feel so anxious and very cross at times.  Imagine being told that your toddler son is not your child - that you brought the wrong baby home from hospital and now his birth parents want him back.  Oh boy.  I've also been enjoying Patience.  She is a self taught detective working in the police records department.  Her autistic mind means that she sees patterns and characteristics in cases that everyone else has overlooked.  It really is a lovely programme.  I've already documented the books I read this month in this blog post here.

Eating

Our son and daughter in law have arranged for us to have a monthly delivery of spices and recipe cards to experiment a bit with Indian cookery.  Our first attempt was really delicious and something I would never have tried before.  We haven't been out to eat this month, but do have friends coming over this evening for a take away meal.  You see, I really do hibernate in the winter!

Self care

There's been a hair cut and a manicure this month which always make you feel nice.  I'm still going to my Zumba class, it really makes you feel good to dance for an hour! I also started attending a Fitness Pilates class which has made me realise that there are a lot of muscles that I have been neglecting.  It is difficult at times but my balance is definitely improving even if my flexibility isn't!  Still, it's only three weeks in so hopefully things will get better.

I do have a health worry though which is ironic as I had been congratulating myself on feeling really well with my new exercise regime.  Following my annual blood test they decided I needed to start statins.  A follow up blood test after a couple of months showed elevated results in two of the liver function tests.  A third test showed even higher levels despite everything else being absolutely normal.  So I am off the statins to see if they have totally disrupted things and now booked in for a liver scan.  This is not good for someone who is naturally anxious.  However, my cholesterol level has gone nicely low so they did their job there!

Days Out

No days out - the weather really hasn't been suitable for that, but we have booked a long weekend away in May.  We are taking Coco and going to an Airbnb in a village called Wells-next-the-sea in Norfolk.

Here is the month, 1 Second Everyday

Be sure to pop over to Deb to see how an Australian January turns out.

Another natural worrier here, visiting from the WBOYC link-up... hope all goes well and the scan turns out to show nothing. Health stuff is so unsettling. Our health is the most important we have. Without it, nothing else matters.
Flexibility and muscles is hard work... I've been strength training for 3 years and lift quite heavy but still have some annoying muscle imbalances. We just need to keep up the good work, I guess!

It's fascinating how, in all the monthly reviews I read, we all seem to highlight different TV progs! Good that we have so much choice. Re statins, my husband had bad side effects with different brands so has stopped taking them, with no adverse changes.

Oh it is so hard not to worry when something unexpected like that comes up; but I do hope at the very lest that all the worry is for nothing. It sure sounds like you are doing everything you can to stay fit and healthy. I find I don't get out nearly as much in Jan & Feb either as it's just too cold to bother. I have been getting to the gym most days and just signed up for a new yoga class since I've been missing yoga so much.

I hear you about hibernating in January. I just wish I could say that we have not eaten out this month. Totally off the wagon (with healthy eating, etc) but am getting back on track. Hope all works out with your upcoming tests. I know that can be stressful. Here's to a new month ahead...and maybe some more agreeable weather!

Hi, Debbie - I was finally able to comment from my regular Chrome setting from my computer. I haven't been able to do this for your posts before and am super delighted about this. I am so sorry to hear about your health concerns and am sending very warm, healing vibes your way. Hibernating and increased self-care in January and February sounds wise to me!

Hi Debbie, thanks for sharing your January with us at #WBOYC? We loved watching Patience and look forward to another series if they make one. Like you I had a haircut and went a bit shorter as we have had heatwave conditions here in Australia so the shorter stye is more manageable in the heat. Have a fabulous February! Hi Deb, I always enjoy catching up with my blog twin on the other side of the world! I do hope your health concerns get sorted and wish you well, it's hard not to get anxious in these situations isn't it? Thanks for joining us for the WBOYC linkup and all the best to you for a happy February!

I am so sorry I am late getting over here to catch up with you. Glad we chatted earlier in the week on WhatsApp. Have been thinking of you and praying for you since. Hope you get the report on your scans in the next couple of days so you don't sit around worrying much longer. Knowledge is power. Once you know what is going on, you can address it. Glad your cholesterol numbers came down. At least there's that!!

Enjoyed reading about your month. I like your fresh haircut. I have gone shorter, too. Glad you are still enjoying Zumba so much.

The spice and recipe kits sound like a delightful gift. Glad your first meal was delicious. We were ordering something called Hello, Fresh for a few months. Kits that come with all the ingredients to make a meal. PC and I would make them together, which was always nice. And enjoy a glass of wine while we cooked.

Enjoy those grandbabies and your friends when they come over for dinner. Give Coco a love for me. Keep me posted on the tests. XO
