The one with the 'aaaahhhh' factor

When our kids were young, I tried my hardest to be the best mum that I could.  Overall I don't think I did a bad job, but there was one area where I failed dismally.  I wouldn't let them have a dog.  We had a variety of goldfish, two hamsters, two guinea pigs and two rabbits (not all at the same time) but it wasn't quite the same.  It's not that I don't like dogs, in fact we always had a dog at home when I was growing up.  My stock phrase was always 'Once you leave home and have a place of your own, you can have as many dogs as you wish.'
Well.  Darling Daughter has left home.  She is in the process of buying her first house with her boyfriend.  She has a birthday this week.  Guess what the boyfriend is buying her for her present:

Yes, I was tempted to go 'ahhh' as well! We were even meaner - no dogs or cats (friends with allergies), and nothing caged. DD eventually won a fish at a fair and we were still looking after it three years after she left home!

We've had the same rule here. I'm sure your daughter will love her new friend - so stinkin' cute - and once she finds out how much work it is to keep a dog - she'll understand why you had that rule!

We have an excuse in that TTO is a bit allergic to dog hair - which suits me because I'm not really a dog person either - we are hoping he grows out of it though because he is the one who wants a dog when he leaves home! That is one seriously cute puppy though..

I DID go 'aaahh'! We said the same to DD and she bought the gorgeous Boo when DH and I moved to Spain.....and yes, she DID discover that she couldn't manage which is why MUM ended up with said fluffy bundle- wouldn't be without her though. Puppy is gorgeous, by the way!

I'm the same - yesterday D really did the guilt trip by saying that her friend who is also an only child has at least got a dog to keep her company whereas she is all by herself. I think there is a song with those words isn't there :0)

Yup, I said aaaaahhhhh :) now I can't say anything as I was bought up with having dogs, and I'm a huge doggie fan. So double aaaaahhhh from me lol
