Simply a Moment in December

The table is strewn with triangles of fabric; a magazine is open at the 'Quilt block of the Month' page. I am close to finishing it, and have learnt several new techniques. I have enjoyed an hour or so of quiet concentration. On the arm of the armchair in the lounge, my iPad springs into life.  Surprised, I rush to see what it is. In total surprise I see that it is a FaceTime call from our daughter.  A rush of love flows through me as I see her face glowing in the freezing temperatures of New York.  I can see the skyscrapers behind her as she explains they are at the top of the Rockefeller Centre.  She says she is sending me photos that they took this morning, during a horse drawn tour of Central Park.
I can see the pure joy in her face and hear it in her voice.  This is her dream, to visit New York in the snow.  Years of watching Christmas films have sparked this desire, the atmosphere of a winter wonderland. And now she is there, living her dream.  It reminds me of the song "you've got to have a dream, if you don't have a dream, how you gonna have a dream come true?"
The dog, upon hearing her voice and seeing her face, is totally bemused, running to the front door, whimpering and barking.  She misses her 'mum'. We finish the call and go into the kitchen to find a treat to calm her down.

Simply a Moment is organised by Alexa, pop over to her blog to share more moments this month.

What a lovely unexpected moment for you. It's a dream (among many involving foreign travel!)of mine too, New York in the snow. Maybe one day.

So pleased that she got to realise her dream.

Oh, I am so delighted - both for her and for you! I know how much it meant to me to be able to Skype with my own daughter when she was far away from home ... Your vivid description has brought it all back; hoping you both will share many happy memories of this trip :). Thank-you so very much for linking up and joining in again this month - and some wonderfully festive photos to boot!

LOVE this!

SOOO glad the snow cooperated! It's actually hit or miss with snow in December around here. :) She's pretty lucky, I'd say!

I read something like this and I get blown away by the miracle of the internet all over again. And the miracle of travel too, I should add!

How fun for your daughter! And even better that with modern technology you get to share in her dream come true.

Oh gosh, I'm so glad that your girl got her wish and had snow during her stay in New York! And how FUN to receive a Facetime call from her. So awesome!!!

Carrie Facetime'd me last week and Lucky went crazy trying to figure out where her voice was coming from. So cute! :o)

I've just this minute left a comment on another 'moment' blog about how I planned to do nothing this afternoon but get cosy and watch a festive film. Your daughter's dream is surely a sign I need to [a] get a move on and get snuggly and [b] maybe add 'New York in the snow' to my own list! Gorgeous moment Deb. x

I love your moment, Deb...having been in NY at this time of year (but, unfortunately, with no snow!) it brings back lots of happy memories.... Also the thought of the Skype call and Coco being totally confused...Boo is exactly the same when I FaceTime Kirsty!
