Look how beautiful the colour combination chosen for the Summer of Colour is this week.
So my personal challenge this week was to be less fussy and not to have a circular edge to my mandala. Boy, it took every bit of restraint not to join those up those outside points!
If joining in this project has taught me one thing, it's the calming effect of drawing one of these! Time just goes and you're so totally absorbed in following your design around the sections of the circle. It is so relaxing. Of course, the first thing I see when I look at the photo I took is the fact that I seem to be unable to actually centre the circle into the middle of the paper!
There are some crazily clever people taking part in this challenge and my drawings are so simplistic in comparison - please do pop over there and click on some links and prepare to be amazed at some of the work that people are doing. The word 'inspirational' doesn't even come close.
I'm in the process of poem writing today. My work colleague is leaving to be a full time author and historically, she will always write a poem for people who leave the office. So I volunteered to write one for her. 'How hard can it be?' I wondered. Hard. Really hard! So I finished my first draft of it and asked my husband to listen while I read it out to him to see how it sounded and whether I had got the rhythm of the lines right. It was hard to tell at the end as I found I had a lump in my throat and a tear in my eye and I could barely read the lines out. That's good in a farewell poem - right?! Back to the drawing board ...

I'm always so happy to read that you are enjoying the process of drawing mandalas, Deb. This one is awesome and I love that you held off on joining the points around the edge. However, there's nothing wrong with a round mandala, you know? ;o) So sweet of you to write a poem for your coworker. If all goes well with it I think you might take over her poem writing role when she's gone.

Well I wouldn't say your mandala is simplistic, there is a lot of careful, detailed work involved. Now if you want to talk simplistic - what about my index card entries! Now that's what you call simplistic! Lol. But what fun! I love that I can work the two challenges together I will miss SOC when it's over. It just shows how quickly 6 weeks pass by :o))
Awwww. I am so sorry to hear that your coworker is leaving. I actually got a lump in my throat reading the end of your post! I will keep you in my thoughts! And I love your BEAUTIFUL mandala! I have made one in my life and they are not easy to make! So I know how much work goes into them! Your art is lovely!!!!!

I'm enjoying seeing how your mandalas are evolving each week. Lovely colour combination. I have all the SOC prompts saved to make a set of cards, once things calm down a bit next week.

I don't think this mandala looks simple, but stunning. I do NOT find drawing like this to be relaxing, but I know lots of people would disagree with me. My hand seizes up and I can't move my fingers for several hours afterward, even though I rub the hand with my non-dominant one. So, I think this is simply incredible. I like your photos, too.
BTW, I agree that's what a farewell poem should convey.
