Mr K in the kitchen

At the beginning of the year, I tried to instigate a new rule for Saturday nights, either we went out for a meal, went to friends or if we were home, my husband would cook.
At first he was keen, and a good sprinkling of compliments whilst eating encouraged him to keep doing it. Comments like 'I cook 6 days a week, it's only fair I have a day off' kept him feeling like it really was only right and proper for him to tackle the cooker on a Saturday.
But recently, for one reason or another, the routine has been broken and I can't remember the last time he took control of the kitchen. So when Jamie Oliver started his 30 Minute Meals programme and it all looks so simple and tasty, a seed of an idea started to germinate in my brain. The episode where he does piri-piri chicken with a mixture of sweet and ordinary potatoes with a salad was on the tv and we were both saying how good it looked. 'I reckon you could do that' I dropped into the conversation. Then I 'accidentally' printed the recipe off the website and left it on the desk. Today I happened to buy all the ingredients needed when I went to Tesco. Then I casually mentioned that as Strictly Come Dancing was on tonight, it might be nice if he did dinner while it was on the tv. Before he knew what he was saying, he'd agreed to it!
I'm so looking forward to having my dinner cooked for me again, how many episodes in the new Jamie Series?......

Being sneaky is obviously the way to do it,Deb. How about turning on the new Nigella programme....some delicious recipes....and how many men can resist watching her????

Clever thinking! My DH always does homemade pizza on Saturdays ~ he's away today & tomorrow, so I persuaded him that we should eat pizza last night!

Love the new Avatar BTW....I love those Bridgewater mugs, but we only drink black coffee here!!!!...I do hope you enjoy your supper tonight...sounds yummy! Funnily enough, when I first started working Sundays, the deal was that DH would cook dinner, ready for me to come home to...it lasted about 5 weeks...I've been working Sundays for nearly 9 years!!!

I wish that kind of subterfuge would work here - but I doubt it! You've got me on a "I am completely fed up with doing all the cooking "day too!

Love it, I actually bought the book of the same series the other day thinking it would be nice to get some ideas for 30 mins meals - as you know there is no hope of a meal from himself BUT he is a good ironer so I can't complain! Hope you enjoy your meal xx

lol! Hooray for Jamie ;-)

The Doctor often does kitchen duty on Saturdays - it does tend to mean 'stuff that goes in the oven' rather than 'stuff he cooked from scratch', but it gives me a break and that's good enough for me! xx

Very nice work my fellow-Deb. You'll have to let us know how your dinner was... :o)

clever idea! that kind of subterfuge wouldn't work here, although my husband is pretty good at throwing something in the oven, and I keep telling him if he just followed a recipe he could do it. oh, well, he prefers to head out and let someone else cook, so I'm not complaining, I still don't have to cook, or clean!

Good job! My DH is actually the main cook around here, and I'm very grateful for that fact.
